Nostalgia, Chrome, and Community Pride: Wheels of Mayhem
Memories, Muscle Cars, and Chrome
When we headed along to Wheels of Mayhem on Saturday, 15 November, honestly... I was completely blown away. I have never seen that many classic cars and custom builds in one place here in Kaitāia before.
Walking around the grounds brought back so many memories of my Dad and the cars he drove when I was little: the Morris Minor, Mini, Kingswood, Commodore, Bedford Truck, Club Sport, and more. The air was full of nostalgia, mixed with great community vibes, local pride, and plenty of laughter.
I even learnt what a sound-off was, so it turned out to be an educational outing too!
Hats Off to the Far North Rod & Custom Club
A huge hats off to the Far North Rod & Custom Club for hosting such an awesome event for our community.
For those unfamiliar with them, the Far North Rod & Custom Club is a community of motoring enthusiasts stretching from Kerikeri right up to Kaitāia who share a genuine passion for classic cars, hot rods, and motorcycles.
One of the best things about the club is that they welcome all vehicle types. Whether you are actively restoring a project, building a ride from scratch, or simply admire classic vehicles, new members are always welcome. They host their regular monthly meetings at the Kaitāia Aero Club, creating an easygoing space to talk cars, share advice, and connect with fellow enthusiasts.
A Few of Our Favourites
There were far too many incredible rides on the day to feature them all, but I have attached a few photos of our absolute favourites.
Save the Date: Saturday, 14 November 2026
We are already looking forward to the next gathering.
Make sure to mark your calendar: the Far North Rod & Custom Club Open Air Display is happening on Saturday, 14 November, at the Kaitāia A&P Showgrounds.
If last year's turnout was anything to go by, it will be well worth heading along. Round up the whānau and check out some of the best chrome and horsepower the Far North has to offer!
